Teresa Opheim

Climate Land Leaders Director

Teresa was raised in Mason City, Iowa, and grew up visiting her grandparents’ farm. She has a deep admiration for the farmers who grow our food, knowing it is hard work for generally low pay. Because of this, she has supported local farmers for the past 25 years by purchasing CSA shares and shopping at farmers markets and her local food cooperative. Teresa has also spent her entire career in agricultural and environmental nonprofits. She is a former Fellow with the Minnesota Institute for Sustainable Agriculture and the former Executive Director of Practical Farmers of Iowa. Additionally, she is the editor of the book The Future of Family Farms: Practical Farmers’ Legacy Letter Project. Teresa serves as Project Director of Climate Land Leaders and also helps Sharing Our Roots with communications and fundraising tasks.

What Teresa Enjoys About Sharing Our Roots

I really enjoy watching the farm take shape — and the energy and commitment of Sharing Our Roots employees. The organization is part of a massive movement to restore our lands so they provide ecosystem services for all of us.
