In 2016, Sharing Our Roots (formerly Main Street Project) acquired 100 acres of farmland in Dakota County in partnership with the Loretto and Wasner families. The land had been privately owned and utilized for conventional corn and soybean production for over 20 years, resulting in compact soil and polluted waters. Today the landscape is alive again. We’ve planted perennials and cover crops. We’ve brought livestock back on the land. We’re testing and improving water and soil conditions. And native wildlife species are returning. Our farm is a prime example of the resiliency that is possible when you let the land lead the way.
