Be a Change Maker

Help us reimagine an agricultural future that respects the land, honors farmers, and is rooted in community.

  • Creating Lasting Change

At Sharing Our Roots, we are working at the intersection of land justice, food sovereignty, regenerative agriculture, climate change mitigation and conservation. These elements are all interconnected and interdependent.

We remove systematic barriers to accessing land and resources for emerging farmers & gardeners. Investing in farmers and their small agricultural businesses today will bring us a step closer to community-wide food security, a thriving economy by keeping wealth local, and give us a chance to slow the effects of climate change.

  • Building a Legacy

In 2016, Sharing Our Roots acquired degraded corn-on-corn farmland. We are restoring it to health by keeping the soil covered, planting perennials, protecting wetlands, and restoring wildlife habitat. The Sharing Our Roots Farm allows us to build a legacy of supporting aspiring farmers, enhancing local wealth and food security, while innovating a resilient agriculture system.

Our 163-acre farm is a home to more than 20 farmers who are helping us restore the land and modeling a new way of farming in our region through commons-based farming – one that values farmers, respects the environment and is rooted in community.

Help create a sustained safety net

for local immigrant, BIPOC, & LGBTQ+ farmers!

In June 2024, Dakota County received 17 inches of rain, making it the wettest spring on record and bringing historic floods to southern Minnesota. Many of our farmers’ fields have standing water, making it impossible to replant what has been lost.

The emergence of our Farmer Climate Relief Fund is an effort to bring together those committed to building a future where immigrant and emerging farmers have the opportunity to grow food for our communities.

Legacy Giving

Making a provision for Sharing Our Roots in your will or trust is a meaningful way to make an investment in the critical work necessary to innovate land access solutions for the next generation farmers, work to increase food sovereignty, and protect the environment.
