Ready to get into the field? Sharing Our Roots Farm hosts monthly farm volunteer days on the first Tuesday of the month, from April to October. Volunteers will be supporting the creation and maintenance of a farm demonstration garden, helping to provide communal and educational growing space.

This month, volunteers will be picking elderberries with local herbalist LuAnn Raadt from 9-10:30am. Participants are welcome to take home the berries they pick! LuAnn will teach on elderberry’s medicial properties and the best ways to preserve your harvest. Stick around from 10:30am-12pm to help collect prairie seed for restoration work next season. We'll be focusing on collecting yellow and grayheaded coneflower seed.

Remember to dress for the weather and to bring water. Since Sharing Our Roots is a working farm, please keep pets at home. Please send any translation or accommodation needs to alissa@sharing-our-roots.org.

Food Safety Agreements

Since volunteers will be working with edible food crops, we ask that all volunteers understand the following requirements: + Volunteers must wash their hands before beginning the day. Multiple hand washing stations are available at the Sharing Our Roots Farm. Volunteers must wash their hands again after eating, smoking, touching their mouth or nose, or any other times when hands could have become contaminated. + Tobacco can cause a serious disease in a tomato crop. If you must smoke, you must wash your hands well before entering the fields. There is no spitting allowed in the fields. + Volunteers are welcome to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at the farm. Please bring a personal lunchbox to keep personal food out of the fields, packshed, cooler, and freezer. + Trash and recycling cans are located at the portapotties, in the red shed, and in the packshed for volunteers to dispose of any waste. Please keep litter out of the fields. + There are first aid kits in the red shed, truck, and pack shed. Please let a SOR staff member know immediately if you need to use these.
