Thank you for your interest in joining the Sharing Our Roots Farmer Cohort!

ABOUT THE COMMONS COHORT

We are thrilled to open the Sharing Our Roots Farm to immigrant, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and emerging farmers to provide an innovative, long-term land access solution in our region. Our Farm exists as a place to foster growth of new farm operations, improve food sovereignty, and to model how conservation and agriculture can coexist. In practice, our commons-based approach is rooted in sharing critical farming infrastructure (barns, pack shed, irrigation), equipment (tools, tractors), and knowledge of farming practices.

In addition to resource-sharing, farmers work collaboratively with the SOR team to establish communal expectations, priorities, and procedures based on the needs of the group. Read more on our Commons Cohort page.

2024 FARMLAND CAPACITY

With our current irrigation systems on the farm, each crop farmer has the ability to grow on roughly 0.25 - 1.5 acres. Because of this, we are only able to offer a limited number of new farmland agreements each season. Land allocation is based on availability, alignment with the needs of the land and community, and is subject to the discretion of the Sharing Our Roots team.

Our goal is to be able to expand the tillable, irrigated land for annual and perennial crop farmers as the farm continues to build out infrastructure in the coming years.

APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY NOVEMBER 13TH

Please note that Sharing Our Roots Farm is not a formal farmer training program. If we are unable to meet your immediate needs for land access, please see our Farmer Application for a list of other regional partners and resources that we encourage you to consider.

  • Step 1: Review the Cohort Program Overview and our website.

Step 2 (Optional): Visit the farm during a public farm tour, or request a farm walk with a Sharing Our Roots team member to get a feel for the land and community. Email lucia@sharing-our-roots.org to schedule a farm visit, or check our calendar for upcoming public tours.
