Jaime Lara

Wildlife Counts Intern (he/they)

Jaime Lara is a rising super-senior at Humboldt State University in California, majoring in Wildlife. His interest in Sharing Our Roots was sparked during a summer of yarrow farming in Santa Cruz, CA, where he met SOR Board Chair Dan Hernandez and learned about Sharing Our Roots’ impactful work. Jaime was particularly intrigued by SOR’s approach to regenerative agriculture, which includes wildlife as an integral part of the ecosystem instead of viewing them as pests. Contrary to conventional agricultural belief, the presence of wildlife can indicate and support a healthy ecosystem that then benefits crops.

At Sharing Our Roots, Jaime is excited to learn more about how proactive wildlife management practices can benefit farms. He will be assisting Rocky with wildlife surveys and community education, with the goal of sharing knowledge with other farms and farmers about the mutual benefits of supporting wildlife.

Jaime is eager to learn more about wildlife survey techniques, such as how to monitor different species like birds, frogs, and insects. Additionally, he hopes to deepen his understanding of the diverse cultures represented at SOR through appreciation of their unique approaches to wildlife.
