Maxime Groen

Board Member

Maxime is a community worker, social researcher, and is passionate about supporting Native People and socially marginalized communities in defending and attaining formalized rights, land, air, and water. She was born in The Netherlands, grew up in Anishinaabe Aki Michigan and moved to Mni Sota Makoce in 2022. She has a graduate degree in Environmental Justice from University of Michigan and previously worked in the healthcare field. Maxime lives in South Minneapolis, 1.8 miles from the Roof Depot site, where the city is threatening to further endanger Little Earth and East Phillips neighborhood, one of the most polluted communities in the state.

She currently works as the Outreach and Development Assistant with Women’s Environmental Institute. In her free time, Maxime likes to play outdoors, knit and cross stitch, meet up with old and new friends, and listen to water.
