Moffat Odwere
Moffado Farm
Moffat Otwere lives in the Twin Cities and is from the Kisi region of Kenya. He has been farming since he was seven years old. He moved to the U.S. in 2017 and began working as a medical parts assembler in a factory. After seeing and supporting Samuel and Esther’s farm at Sharing Our Roots (Canaan Greens Farm), Moffat felt eager to start his own farm. Seeing familiar traditional farming practices and connection to land was deeply inspiring to him. With the help of many community members, Moffat uses organic practices to grow tomatoes, cabbage, collards, chinsaga, managu, onions, corn, potatoes, and beans. This year, he is selling his produce to The Good Acre’s LEAFF program and within his community. In future seasons, he hopes to sell to schools and larger markets.
He hopes more people from his community can join Sharing Our Roots on the land and feels strongly that growing organic food is important to the health of our minds and bodies.
