El Paraíso Farm

José Carreon is the founder of El Paraíso Farm and originally from Castaños, Coahuila México. As a child, he helped his father grow beans and maiz for masa for tortillas. He has lived in Minnesota for 33 years and has always grown his own produce in his backyard.

El Paraíso Farm grows a variety of hot peppers, tomatoes, and tomatillos. This year, José is excited to also grow a variety of corn from his hometown of Castaños. El Paraíso Farm grows on a quarter acre of land at Sharing Our Roots Farm and uses sustainable and organic growing practices to minimize impact on the land.

José got connected to Sharing Our Roots through his spouse, who works as a Community Connectors. He chose to farm at Sharing Our Roots because of the easy access to land, water, and infrastructure (and “because the staff at SOR are super friendly and nice.”).

El Paraíso Farm will be selling produce at the Emerging Farmers’ Markets this season.
